JEAN-PHILIPPE COLLARD
The fairy of music must have been prowling around the cradle of Jean-Philippe Collard.
Raised in a big family of music lovers, the young lad, from the Champagne region in Northeast France, surrendered to the charm of Chamber Music.
At age 10, he went to Paris, enrolled at the "Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique" and won international contests. Eight years ensued under the enlightened and exacting guidance of his mentor Pierre Sancan, before being propelled on the international scene.
The French pianist is not one who boasts his awards and drops names of his protectors in order to foster his talent. He hardly mentions the beautiful friendship with Vladimir Horowitz whose profound and sustained secret paean makes him a virtuoso of half-tint lyricism, of vibrant and warm confession.
These virtues placed the Master in an undisputed position of defender of the french music, Fauré, Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Ravel. He also serves with mastery and elegance the best of the pianistic universal repertoire : Rachmaninov, Brahms, Chopin, Liszt...
With more than a sixty-title discography at EMI Classics, Jean-Philippe Collard performs on the greatest world musical scenes whether in Europe or over the Atlantic : From Carnegie Hall to Teatro Colon, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées to the Royal Albert Hall…
He is a well known figure to the French public but is also a golden Figure in the USA. He played with the ghotha conductors throughout the world such as Semyon Bychkov, Marek Janowski, Lorin Maazel, Kent Nagano Eugen Jochum, Seiji Ozawa, Andre Previn, Charles Dutoit, to mention a few.
Jean-Philippe Collard is Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters, Knight of the National Order of Merit, Légion d'Honneur Knight and holds an Honoris Causa degree from The Waterloo University (Canada)
